Nice nurses-check
Nice anaesthesiologist-check
Karlye carried back to us from recovery vs. being wheeled on a ginormous stretcher while screaming-check
No patchwork casts-double check
One Day Surgery even sent Child Life Services to see Karlye. These girls walked with her to the OR and played with her in recovery after waking up.
and...ONLY THREE, YES, THREE MORE WEEKS OF CASTS!!!!
Dr. Doyle was able to get her feet in the position that he wanted this time, so she is in a set of "holding" casts for three weeks before they will be removed and she will then be placed in corrective shoes attached to a Dobb's Bar. Our appointment is October 27th for removal of these lovely, now red, casts! Roll Tide!
Needless to say, we are so excited about this news! We cannot believe that she is having 2 months less casting than we had been expecting. Now, this does not mean that this journey is over, and we understand that. This brace does not come without it's own set of frustrations. Now her feet will be tied together, which will probably be a new and different frustration. Walking will probably be a challenge, as the bar does not have a hinge motion for walking; however I am sure she will figure out how to walk eventually! I am not quite sure how we are going to hold her with her feet tied together, which is the one thing she wants ALL day long. I am sure we will figure it all out!
However, praise the Lord, she will now be able to bend and straighten her legs. She will be able to kick her legs, as the Dobb's Bar has a hinge for a kicking motion-sure hope she does not get too upset with one of us! Hopefully she will be able to take a bath, which is her favorite past time that she has dearly missed. We think they will give her some time (30min-1 hour/day) out of the brace initially for some running/playing time; however Nathan and I may have to call the fire department to get it back on her! The doctor said that she will be in the brace most of the day initially, and as time passes, she will have more time out of the brace. He will give us the schedule at our next appointment.
Our new hobbies after the casts come off consist of repainting the walls/door frames and purchasing stock in furniture pens to repair all of the "cast" damage. It has been well worth it though to watch her maneuver around this house like nothing is stopping her!
She had a pediatrician appointment today, as if yesterday was not enough for her. We have been waiting almost 2 months for an initial check-up, so we hated to cancel it. Everything went well with this visit. We are going to wait and begin her many immunizations after her casts are removed. 4 immunizations the first time-poor baby! She just can't seem to get a break.
Thank you all once again for all of your thoughts, prayers, encouraging words, phone calls, and emails. We truly appreciate it.

Yay! The red casts are my favorite because they are the LAST ONES! Praying for lots of sweet snuggles and major bonding/attachment for you three over these next few weeks before another transition.
