We made it to Guangzhou finally! Our flight was a little delayed in Nanjing. Karlye did excellent on the plane; however it looked like a child was for sure sitting on our row. I feel sorry for whoever had to clean up after us. There was torn magazine pieces, a thousand tiny pieces of muffin, and sticky rice stuck to the seats. Hey, whatever it takes to have as little meltdowns as possible, right? She actually had her own seat, and do you think she sat in it very much? Yeah right! She walked back and forth between Nathan and I for just about the entire flight.
Karlye has had a really good day today! She is really starting to warm up to Nathan! She will let him hold her hand while she walks, she will walk to him, she will let him feed her, and she will lean over to him to give him kisses. She is definitely less hesitant when he attempts to hold her, so I think in a matter of days, she will allow this as well! I sure hope so! I definitely did not do enough arm workouts before we left. I will definitely have earned some muscles before we get home! The carrier has been wonderful, but it still takes some strength.
Karlye is now walking by herself around the hotel room! We do stand close by when she is walking, as her feet tend to give her troubles at times, and we would rather her not face plant while we are here in China. No emergency room visits here please! She still prefers to crawl, but walking is becoming more of a preference each day. For those of you who do not know, her feet are a little worse than we expected, but it does not seem to be stopping this little girl! They do not have the proper bracing to maintain the correct position of the feet, so therefore they return to their original position as time goes by. It is similar to wearing a retainer after having braces. They did give us some braces for her feet, but she either pulls them off (imagine that!) or they fall off because they do not fit correctly.
Karlye is eating us out of this hotel room! She eats anything we eat and just can't seem to get enough. We have heard this is typical for children who have come from orphanages, so we just keep letting her eat. She does eventually stop when she gets full. She absolutely loves Cheerios and Gerber Puffs, but the problem is that she would eat the entire container. Don't take them away from her or it will cause a MAJOR meltdown! We had one of these meltdowns on the bus yesterday on our way home from touring. Whew, boy is it hard to deal with a meltdown in a very limited space! Hello parenting! 14 hour flight, here we come!
And for those of you who laughed at us when we safety proofed our house before we left, well, we may need to do more! She has already found the plug outlets and cords over every square foot of this hotel room. We are moving furniture and hiding things right and left! Oh, and germs, well we have just had to get over it! She is trying to eat carpet fuzz off the floor and any food particle that she sees on the floor goes in the mouth as well. Yesterday, she was trying to eat her dropped Cheerios off the booth in the dumpling restaurant. I know that does not sound that bad, but you should have seen how filthy the booths were. She then proceeded to try to feed these Cheerios to Nathan and I, yuck! By the way, Chinese dumplings are excellent.

Oh my word I don't think I can say enough how beautiful this child is!!! I think she is going to be a gymnast!! Looks like everything is going alot smoother than must of us thought and I am sure God has had a hand it that. She appears to be transitioning quickly and be the time you get home she will be a daddy's girl for sure. Keep those pics coming when you can and continue to enjoy your bonding time with that cute little angel. What a gorgeous family God has made!!!!! Love ya, Aunt NeNe
ReplyDeleteAs I posted on FB yesterday, we have already begun to pray for the other passengers on the planes that three of you are on!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures only make the separation that much harder for all of us. I am very thankful that the three of you have had this private time together, without having to worry about the normal duties of life. However, by the time you get home, we are going to be broke buying new picture frames!!
Thank you again for letting us share in these first few days of your family. Karlye is certainly enjoying her new life, and that will only get better once she gets home and finds out how many people have been loving her for a long time.
Looking forward to your arrival in BHAM one week from tonight, see you then.
Dad
Quite flexible little rascal isn't she? What a personality too. Thanks for taking the time to update us daily. We look forward to reading your blog and looking at pictures. Love you all. Aunt Shelly

It's the only thing getting us all through the wait!
ReplyDeleteWe just can't get enough of Karlye's smiles. She's beautiful and has to be the best dressed child in China! We are continuing to pray for bonding for all of you - although I'm sure it's happening with all of you so close together. We can't wait to see you all in 1 week!
ReplyDeleteWe missed you at our OT dinner last night! But we all looked at Karlye pictures for the entertainment! It was decided that a play date in the OT gym must be had soon for all of you with little ones about the same age. Those feet are gonna be fine! She seems like a very determined little chickie!
